Question 7: Progression

Looking back at your preliminary task (the College magazine), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

As you can clearly see my college magazine was a disaster and I think that was due to the fact of I didn't know where I had to place things and what type of things were suppose to go on a front cover. But when I eventually learnt what was supposed to be on there and where it went made a huge difference between my magazines. Another major thing I have learnt is how to use In-design properly as for on my college magazine I found it difficult trying to move everything to how I liked it but I found it easy on my music magazine as I had been told that you could group items and this made everything a lot easier for me as I was able to group all of the covers and kicker lines together for easy movement. Also on my college magazine you can see that most of the kickers and cover lines are all over the place and as I kind of knew how they were on other magazines I was unsure on how to do this but I eventually learnt that there was also another button to keep things aligned to certain things or to make the writing fit around an image and this also made things a hell of a lot easier.

As for my contents page you can see a huge difference in the way it has been produced as my college contents page looks like it has been put together very easily on paint and doesn't look very good at all. Although for my music contents you can see that it looks like it has all been well though out and has a lot more contents than my college magazine. The images on my college magazine looks very disorganised and messy whereas the other contents page is very neat and in sections of different types of context.

Question 6: Technologies

What have you learnt about technologies form the process of constructing this product?

Question 5: Addressing the Audience

How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience through the front cover using typical magazine conventions. These were using the model as a guide for my cover lines and kickers. I think my masthead gives off the impression that the magazine belongs to all genres as this is not the thing that stands out most on the page. Also with my model being in similar colours to the colour theme makes her stand out yet still blend in as it doesn't look like I have just a random image, this also makes the reds and yellows stand out more as the colour theme is just simply black and white with yellow and red drawing you into the more important things.  With 'Exclusive' being in yellow it makes it stand out the most again the black and white which draws in the audience suggesting that this is a one of interview and 'inside' suggests that there in more to the magazine than what is on the cover. The most important thing on my magazine I think is the model as this is the main thing that overlaps the masthead and is also has white space so that it stands out more. This is important as you don't want to do a feature article and then it not to be recognised before everything else. Plus this also makes everything else stand out as the audience will want to know what else is in the magazine apart from the main article. The type of language used on the front indicates what my magazine will contain and will also draw my audience in to the specific article. With the language being informal and quite basic yet a little complex aims for the older teens which were my target audience.
On my double page spread I have kept the same colour scheme to indicate that the pages are from the same magazine and also used red to make each question stand out and that the audience can see the difference between the question and the answer. I think this is a vital part of a written interview as the audience can see the question they are wanting and go straight to it instead of have to look through to see if the question has been asked. Another important thing on the article is the pull quote as I have used this as a banner type to make less white space but I think this works well as the audience can see clearly the pull quote as it stands out and also this acts like a sub heading for the headline. The coloured picture stands out against the rest if the article as this is the only thing in colour but also draws the audience to the text as it in the centre.

For my contents page I have included the uk top 40 as this is what my magazine is about and will draw in the audience to see each week what the top 40 is. Again the colour theme is repeated and the red banner around the top 40 indicates to the audience what the most important thing on the page is. for the photography I have used most real life concert images that I had taken to engage the audience further as this shows that they are all connected through music.

Question 4: Audience

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My magazine is aimed towards an audience between the age range of 15-22 because I feel that the audience of this age are the likely type to be reading these types of magazines or interested in the chart pop music genre. I made sure that my age range also included my age as I know what I would like to see from a magazine and this would give me the best magazine I could produce. My readership profile below helped me visualise what my audience liked and based on this I wanted to create something that my audience would be engaged in.

Question 2: Representing Social Groups

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine is based on general chart music and what songs are in the top charts as you can see this by my contents page with including the UK top 40. The type of music in the charts tends to be popular music and the most bought songs in the UK. Generally, the media shows the audience as people who are very over the top, dramatic and people who want to become exactly like their favourite artist. Although a research that has recently been carried out shows that people who listen to chart pop are generally outgoing, hard working, have a high self esteem and gentle but the negative thing to this is that it says they are not at ease. Research. Popular music tends to be like a happy type of music although this isn't always the case as there is artists that release the song that represents their album like Passenger who released a song about how you need everything when its gone and this relates to his album as it is about the things he see's and what his outlook on the world is.

History of chart music has changed quite a bit as the song that was number 1 in the 90's probably won't be similar to a song that is number today. Listening back through the music over the years most of the most popular songs have reoccurred in today charts due to the TV shows like the x factor and Britain's got talent but this has also changed the type of song depending on this singer. Also the fashion has changed with this as to the way the artist and fans dress. Depending on the year the fans have tried to copy from their idols and recreated the look they have seen them previously wearing and now we also have tribute acts who wants to be exactly like them by wearing wigs and remaking the same outfits from a while back like Elvis. their are many tribute acts for Elvis and I think this is because of how popular he was back then and this leads on to looking the same as him.

          Destiny's child - 1997                                                              Little Mix - 2013

Both these girl groups are from the same genre of music and age range but you can tell which one is the band from the 90's just by their clothing as back then the groups tended to dress in the same material or repeat the same type of design on each member whereas today each member has their own unique style which is also incorporated in their music.

I think that the positives of chart music is that there is a meaning to a song like 'Little Me' by Little Mix, if you listen to the lyrics it says that if they could go back they would tell themselves to speak up and change slightly the actions they took when they were little and as we know they have some younger fans and as they progress listening to this it could be a way for them to maybe stop bullying or think about the things there are about to do/ A study shows that american youth listen to music/watch music video 4-5 hours a day which is more time than they spend with friends and watching TV and can also alters study habits. Study

Question 1: Forms and Conventions

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
